Public Speaking

Due: Jan 12 at 11:59pmCalendarPublic SpeakingDetailsPerform the following tasks:

Step 1: Post the following on the discussion board.
Respond to the following, and if appropriate, include personal experience as part of your answers.
Integrated communication refers to the energy public speakers bring to their presentation through the excitement of their voice, the sincerity of their face, their body language and gestures, and the intensity of their connection with listeners. When used together, these dimensions of integrated communication can create a powerful public speech. However, sometimes a public speaker’s verbal communication does not match his/her nonverbal signals. For example, imagine a news anchor who smiles while talking about an accident caused by a drunk driver or a speaker persuading an audience to travel to Hawaii with a monotone voice and lackluster appearance.
Think about how you feel when your communication partner’s verbal statements clearly don’t match his/her nonverbal communication? What message does the audience receive when this happens with a speaker?
Give an example of when you experienced this, and explain what could have been done to improve the speaker’s communication integration. If you have never experienced this, think about the examples provided here, and explain the steps public speakers in general should take to ensure their verbal communication matches their nonverbal signals.

Professional challenges

As a Healthcare Administrator in a Pediatric department,  list and explain three issues or professional challenges that you might face in your capacity as an allied health professional. (In one paragraph.)

In another paragraph, explain what resources would you use within the organization of your employment to help you solve these issues?

  1. What resources would you use within the organization of your employment to help you solve these issues?

Quality of qualitative research designs.

Typically, when speaking of validity, qualitative researchers are referring to research that is credible and trustworthy, i.e., the extent to which one can have confidence in the study’s findings (Lincoln & Guba, 1985). Generalizability, a marker of reliability, is typically not a main purpose of qualitative research because the researcher rarely selects a random sample with a goal to generalize to a population or to other settings and groups. Rather, a qualitative researcher’s goal is often to understand a unique event or a purposively selected group of individuals. Therefore, when speaking of reliability, qualitative researchers are typically referring to research that is consistent or dependable (Lincoln & Guba, 1985), i.e., the extent to which the findings of the study are consistent with the data that was collected.

For this Discussion, you will explain criteria for evaluating the quality of qualitative research and consider the connection of such criteria to philosophical orientations. You will also consider the ethical implications of designing qualitative research.

With these thoughts in mind:

Write an explanation of two criteria for evaluating the quality of qualitative research designs. Next, explain how these criteria are tied to epistemological and ontological assumptions underlying philosophical orientations and the standards of your discipline (Healthcare Science). Then, identify a potential ethical issue in qualitative research and explain how it might influence design decisions. Finally, explain what it means for a research topic to be amenable to scientific study using a qualitative approach.

Explain in 1-2 pages. Be sure to support your Main Issue Post and Response Post with reference to the week’s Learning Resources and other scholarly evidence in APA Style.

Assessment For Health Promotion

Discussion

As the school nurse working in a college health clinic, you see many opportunities to promote health. Maria is a 40-year-old Hispanic who is in her second year of nursing school. She complains of a 14-pound weight gain since starting school and is afraid of what this will do to both her appearance and health if the trend continues. After conducting her history, you learn that she is an excellent cook and she and her family love to eat foods that reflect their Hispanic heritage. She is married with two school-age children. She attends class a total of 15 hours per week, plus she must be present for 12 hours of labs and clinical. She maintains the household essentially by herself and does all the shopping, cooking, cleaning, and chauffeuring of the children. She states that she is lucky to get 5 hours of sleep per night, but that is okay with her. She drinks coffee all morning to “keep her going.” She lives 1 hour from campus and commutes each day, and often drinks diet cola to “stay awake.” When asked what she does to relax and de-stress, Maria states she “doesn’t even have time to think about that.”

Maria’s vitals today are as follows; T 98.6, R 20, HR 88, BP 148/90

Using the lesson and text as your guide, answer the following questions.

  1. What additional assessment data (subjective and/or objective) would you like to gather from Maria?
  2. What actual health concerns and risk factors have you identified?
  3. What are some opportunities to promote health and wellness for Maria?
  4. Write one nursing diagnosis for Maria (actual, wellness or risk), based on one of the health concerns or opportunities you have identified. (Please use one of the formulas outlined in the text and lesson!)

Remember to use and credit the textbook or lesson, as well as an outside scholarly source, for full credit.

Reimbursement Issues

Week 2 Touchpoint Reflection: Reimbursement Issues

Reflection Information
EXPERIENCE

Using the data collected in Week 1 about your institution’s, provide an overview of the payer mix , delivery system type, and the population demographics. Describe the type of reimbursement system relied upon most heavily by your institution; value- or volume-based.

REFLECTION

Describe how these factors coalesce to influence the financing of the type and quality of care provided at your institution. What are the implications on access and availability of types of care provided at your institution?

IMPLICATIONS FOR FUTURE
  • How is your proposed project affected by the information you’ve gathered about your facility?
  • What adjustments might you have to make in your proposal because of the information gathered?

Venn Diagram for Discussion Assignment

Venn Diagram for Discussion Assignment (Week 2)

Models of payment to healthcare organizations have begun to shift from paying for volume (fee for service) to paying for value (quality). Using a Venn Diagram, compare volume-based versus value-based reimbursement. Be sure the overlapping area contains the commonalities between the two systems.Use the editable template for the Venn Diagram, which is available for download above. This template (with your findings) will need to be posted as an attachment in your discussion post along with your written prompt.

Consider Jim, who is 69 years old and comes to your Emergency Department (ED) with severe abdominal pain. His evaluation, besides a physical exam, includes an abdominal ultrasound, a CT scan with and without contrast, multiple lab studies, all lead to his having an emergency appendectomy. Other than having Type II diabetes well controlled on diet and exercise, he is in otherwise good health. Jim is treated as an outpatient and is discharged home the next morning. Two weeks later he returns to the ED with fever, continued abdominal pain, and a surgical site infection. He is admitted and is treated for 5 days before being sent home.

Using your findings from your comparison of volume- versus value-based reimbursements, analyze the scenario. Determine how the hospital could charge and be reimbursed using the two methods. In this case, which would be better for the hospital? How do each of these payment models contribute to or detract from the goal of the Triple Aim? Considering payer mix, delivery systems, population demographic, and value-based purchasing of the institution. How do all of these elements influence the financing of the type and quality of care provided at your facility? What are the implications on access and availability of types of care provided by your institution?

Remember to support your thoughts with scholarly sources.

Effective Approaches In Leadership And Management

In this assignment, you will be writing a 1,000-1,250 word paper describing the differing approaches of nursing leaders and managers to issues in practice. To complete this assignment, do the following:

  1. Select an issue from the following list: bullying, unit closers and restructuring, floating, nurse turnover, nurse staffing ratios, use of contract employees (i.e., registry and travel nurses), or magnet designation.
  2. Describe the selected issue. Discuss how it impacts quality of care and patient safety in the setting in which it occurs.
  3. Discuss how professional standards of practice should be demonstrated in this situation to help rectify the issue or maintain professional conduct.
  4. Explain the differing roles of nursing leaders and nursing managers in this instance and discuss the different approaches they take to address the selected issue and promote patient safety and quality care. Support your rationale by using the theories, principles, skills, and roles of the leader versus manager described in your readings.
  5. Discuss what additional aspects mangers and leaders would need to initiate in order to ensure professionalism throughout diverse health care settings while addressing the selected issue.
  6. Describe a leadership style that would best address the chosen issue. Explain why this style could be successful in this setting.

Use at least three peer-reviewed journal articles other than those presented in your text or provided in the course.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Cultural Compentency

What are the methods a nurse can use to gather cultural information from patients? How does cultural competence relate to better patient care? Discuss the ways in which a nurse demonstrates cultural competency in nursing practice.

Transcultural Nursing Skills Self-Assessment

Purpose

The Course Outcomes covered this week are CO2 and CO4.

CO2: Describe cultural differences related to drugs.

CO4: Perform a culturally competent nursing assessment. (PO7)

CO6: Identify personal opportunities for improvement in providing culturally competent care based on Andrew/ Boyle’s Transcultural Nursing Assessment Skills Self-Assessment (PO8)

Discussion

Nurses complete assessments on individuals on a daily basis. Self-assessments are in order before considering our abilities to provide culturally competent nursing care.

Professor’s comment: Hello All,

Looking forward to your completing the Transcultural Nursing Skills Self-Assessment Form.  . (Links to an external site.)So, how many No answers did you have  in your self-assessment?  Share one or two of your No answers with your classmates and I and describe how you will convert the No to a Yes over the next few weeks. I look forward to hearing what sort of interventions you will do to help the no turn to a yes!
