FINAL PAPER: World View Chart Writing Assignment

This assignment uses the information you have gathered for your weekly World View Chart Assignments.

Choose ONE (1) category (origin of all things, nature of god, view of human nature, view of good and evil, etc.) from the chart to focus on for this assignment. Consider how the selected category relates to all of the religions covered and to your own social or work experiences.

Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:

  1. Select ONE (1) category from the completed World View Chart. Provide a rationale for choosing this category. What is compelling about this category? Why is it important in the study of religion?
  2. Describe the selected content and explain the significance of the selected category across all of the religions studied. Show in what ways the category is significant for each religion.
  3. Give an example of how you have noticed this category in your life, town or country. What impact does this category have in the everyday lives of people who practice religion in your area? (You do not have to give examples of all the religions in your area, just one you have noticed besides any you practice). For example, in Cincinnati, Ohio we have Hindu, Greek Orthodox, Catholic festivals in the summer. So if my category were “Festivals and Celebrations” I could use those events as my example.
  4. Use at least three (3) quality resources as references for the assignment and document your sources using APA Style for in-text citations and references. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources.
  5. Write clearly and coherently using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics.

Your assignment must:

  • Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
  • Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.

Choose one of the following prompts to respond to for your discussion:

  1. What is the narrator’s “problem”? Think about this in terms of what others have diagnosed her own evaluation of her situation, and in a broader historical/contextual sense by considering how societal expectations and/or cultural conventions contribute to her mental and physical state.
  2. Evaluate the character and motive of the protagonist’s husband. Is he only looking out for her best interest or is he domineering and controlling? Is he a representation of the patriarchy of 19th-century culture? Is he a model of a “good husband” according to 19th– century gender expectations and conventions? You do not have to address each of the questions posed; instead, use these questions as a springboard for your own analysis of the husband. Remember to situate your response in 19th century historical context and support your argument with examples (either direct quotes or paraphrase) from the short story.
  3. How does the physical setting of the story contribute to the mood of the story? What is significant about the room where the protagonist is confined?
  4. Discuss how the wallpaper functions in the text. How does the narrator “read” the yellow wallpaper and how does it influence her own mental condition. How does the wallpaper serve as a symbol?
  5. At the end of the story Gilman writes, “I’ve got out at last,” said I, “in spite of you and Jane. And I’ve pulled off most of the paper, so you can’t put me back.”  Write your interpretation of what the protagonist means by this statement.

Patient HM has a history of atrial fibrillation and a transient ischemic attack (TIA). Thepatient has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and ischemic heart disease. Drugs currently prescribed include the following:

Cobb’s article appeared in 2018, two years prior to the unrest, protests, and riots of 2020. Part of the strategies Cobb mentions to mitigate these implicit biases against people of color includes formal training undertaken by Starbucks. Other attempts to draw attention to these implicit biases has occurred in 2020 with multiple scholars and activists encouraging us all to read a variety of texts on the issue and become more informed on these implicit biases and systemic racism. Do you think this is the best approach to fight implicit bias and racism? Develop a curriculum, including at least one book source, that could be used to increase awareness of these issues and perhaps help to solve them. Then write an essay defending your curriculum.

Select a community of interest in your region. Perform a physical assessment of the community.

  1. Perform a direct assessment of a community of interest using the “Functional Health Patterns Community Assessment Guide.”
  2. Interview a community health and public health provider regarding that person’s role and experiences within the community.

Interview Guidelines

Interviews can take place in-person, by phone, or by Skype.

Develop interview questions to gather information about the role of the provider in the community and the health issues faced by the chosen community.

Complete the “Provider Interview Acknowledgement Form” prior to conducting the interview. Submit this document separately in its respective dropbox.

Compile key findings from the interview, including the interview questions used, and submit these with the presentation.

PowerPoint Presentation

Create a PowerPoint presentation of 15-20 slides (slide count does not include title and references slide) describing the chosen community interest.

Include the following in your presentation:

  1. Description of community and community boundaries: the people and the geographic, geopolitical, financial, educational level; ethnic and phenomenological features of the community, as well as types of social interactions; common goals and interests; and barriers, and challenges, including any identified social determinates of health.
  2. Summary of community assessment: (a) funding sources and (b) partnerships.
  3. Summary of interview with community health/public health provider.
  4. Identification of an issue that is lacking or an opportunity for health promotion.
  5. A conclusion summarizing your key findings and a discussion of your impressions of the general health of the community.

While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
