LAST DISCUSSION

Go back to the discussion topic in Week 1 and review your discussion posts.

Have any of your thoughts or concepts of trends in nursing have changed since week 1.  Please share specific examples.

THIS IS WHAT I POSTED IN WEEK 1:

In my opinion when I think of nursing issues and trends, I think of the nursing staff shortages, increase in patient ratios, nursing advocacy, growth of telehealth, and advances in technology in the field.  In this present time, things are changing rapidly and with that comes change in the field as well.  An example is telehealth, which allows patients to have consults via phone/video with a medical professional.  Nurses are also exploring IT nursing with all these new technical advances.  Which brings to nurses also leaving the clinical setting for a nonclinical nursing career which leads to shortages in the hospitals with this growth of nonclinical nursing careers.

If you talk about a possible poor health outcome, do you believe that outcome will occur? Do you believe eye contact and personal contact should be avoided?

Option 1:

Contemporary presidential campaigns are using social media as a campaign tool by posting on media outlets such as Twitter and Facebook. Social media could be a successful tool to use for a presidential campaign because you can reach more people and you can reach people who do not follow politics. “Social media and its highly visible environment provides presidential candidates the ideal platform to promote themselves, articulate their policy goals, and interact with voters – directly and without the filter of the mainstream media.” (Hwang, 2016) It’s also a way for them to get their message out there without spending a significant amount of money. Messages are posted on a feed or recorded and posted to their social media account for voters to go back and read or watch the videos at a time that is convenient for them. “Some have argued that Donald Trump’s success in the 2016 Republican primaries and caucuses was, in part, a product of his ability to take advantage of media outlets’ insatiable desire to attract viewers, listeners, and readers.” (Greenberg, 2018, p.143) Before social media, voters had to catch it live on television or read about it in the newspaper. Social media has made it easier for Americans to access information about the political candidates.

Week 1 Discussion: Cellular regulation/inflammation/infection alterations  (USLOs 1, 2, 3)

Discussion Overview: Throughout this course, discussions and assignments will focus on various members of the fictional Collins-Kim family. To learn more about the family, go to the interactive family tree diagram and then click on the medical cards for each family member to learn important background information on each member. For this week’s discussion, you will focus on the factors that influence pathology and cellular regulation/inflammation/infection alterations.

Discussion Instructions:

1.

1. Review the Collins-Kim family background and then thoroughly explain how culture, financial, environmental, and genetic factors can influence this family’s exposure, risk factors, and development of certain disease processes.
Support all four with scholarly sources.

2. Select
TWO specific family members and answer the following prompts for each family member selected:

· Explain the lifespan considerations for each of the 2 selected family members.
Support with a scholarly source.

· Explain what cellular regulation/inflammation/infection alterations can you anticipate for each of the 2 selected family members based on what you know about the family.
Support with a scholarly source.

Nursing M 2 assignment

Evidence-Based Proposal and Annotated Bibliography on Technology in Nursing 4-6 pages

introduction

This assessment will give you the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of how technology can enhance quality and safety standards in nursing. You will prepare an annotated bibliography on technology in nursing. A well-prepared annotated bibliography is a comprehensive commentary on the content of scholarly publications and other sources of evidence about a selected nursing-related technology. A bibliography of this type provides a vehicle for workplace discussion to address gaps in nursing practice and to improve patient care outcomes. As nurses become more accountable in their practice, they are being called upon to expand their role of caregiver and advocate to include fostering research and scholarship to advance nursing practice. An annotated bibliography stimulates innovative thinking to find solutions and approaches to effectively and efficiently address these issues.

For this assessment, you will write a 4–6 page annotated bibliography where you identify peer-
reviewed publications that promote the use of one of the technologies presented below that
enhance quality and safety standards in nursing.
Before you complete the detailed instructions in the courseroom,

We would first review one of the technologies
below.

 Electronic Medication Administration with Barcoding: This technology involves
scanning barcodes on patient wristbands and medications to ensure the right patient
receives the right medication at the right dose and time. It significantly reduces
medication errors and enhances patient safety.
 Tele-ICU: Tele-ICU uses telemedicine technology to provide critical care expertise to
ICUs from a remote location. This allows for continuous monitoring of ICU patients and
provides smaller hospitals access to critical care specialists they might not have on-site.

  • Direct patient care technologies require an interaction, or direct contact, between the nurse and patient. Nurses use direct patient care technologies every day when delivering care to patients. Electronic thermometers or pulse oximeters are examples of direct patient care technologies.
  • Indirect patient care technologies, on the other hand, are those employed on behalf of the patient. They do not require interaction, or direct contact, between the nurse and patient. A handheld device for patient documentation is an example of an indirect patient care technology.
  • Conduct a library search using the various electronic databases available through the Capella University Library.
    • Consult the BSN Program Library Research Guide for help in identifying scholarly and/or authoritative sources.
    • Access the NHS Learner Success Lab, linked in the courseroom navigation menu, for additional resources.
  • Scan the search results related to your chosen technology.
  • Select four peer-reviewed publications focused on your selected topic that are the most interesting to you.
  • Evaluate the impact of patient care technologies on desired outcomes.
    • Analyze current evidence on the impact of a selected patient care technology on patient safety, quality of care, and the interdisciplinary team.
    • Integrate current evidence about the impact of a selected patient care technology on patient safety, quality of care, and the interdisciplinary team into a recommendation.
Notes
  • Publications may be research studies or review articles from a professional source. Newspapers, magazines, and blogs are not considered professional sources.
  • Your selections need to be current—within the last five years.

WRITTEN PHILOSOPHY OF NURSING PRACTICE

  • Reflect on your philosophy of nursing practice that you have been developing.
  • Review the middle range nursing theories that you have applied to your philosophy of nursing practice and make any necessary refinements in your thinking and explanations.
  • Consider how the interdisciplinary theory you researched  can further inform your philosophy of nursing practice.

Complete your written philosophy of nursing practice in a Essa y of 3–5 pages, plus cover page, introduction, summary and references page.
