2nd Practicum Experience Plan

Practicum Experience Plan

Overview:

Your Practicum experience includes working in a clinical setting that will help you gain the knowledge and skills needed as an advanced practice nurse. In your practicum experience, you will develop a practicum plan that sets forth objectives to frame and guide your practicum experience.

As part of your Practicum Experience Plan, you will not only plan for your learning in your practicum experience but also work through various patient visits with focused notes as well as one (1) journal entry.

Complete each section below.

Part 2: Individualized Practicum Learning Objectives

Refer to the instructions in Week 2 to create individualized practicum learning objectives that meet the requirements for this course. These objectives should be aligned specifically to your Practicum experience. Your objectives should address your self-assessment of the skills found in the “PMHNP Clinical Skills Self-Assessment Form” you completed in Week 1.

As you develop your individualized practicum learning objective, be sure to write them using the SMART format. Use the resources found in Week 2 to guide your development. Once you review your resources, continue and complete the following. Note: Please make sure each of your objectives are connected to your self-assessment. Also, consider that you will need to demonstrate how you are advancing your knowledge in the clinical specialty.

** YOU MUST HAVE 3 NEW OBJECTIVES EACH QUARTER.  You may include previous practicum objectives; however, you still must have 3 new objectives for your current course.

Objective 1: (Note: this objective should relate to a specific skill you would like to improve from your self-assessment)

Planned Activities:

Mode of Assessment: (Note: Verification will be documented in Meditrek)

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

·  (for example) Develop professional plans in advanced nursing practice for the practicum experience

·  (for example) Assess advanced practice nursing skills for strengths and opportunities

Objective 2: (Note: this objective should relate to a specific skill you would like to improve from your self-assessment)

Planned Activities:

Mode of Assessment: (Note: Verification will be documented in Meditrek)

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

·

Objective 3: (Note: this objective should relate to a specific skill you would like to improve from your self-assessment)

Planned Activities:

Mode of Assessment: (Note: Verification will be documented in Meditrek)

PRAC Course Outcome(s) Addressed:

Individualized Practicum Learning Objectives: Explain three Individualized Practicum Learning Objectives that address your self-assessment of the skills found in the Clinical Skills Self-Assessment, are SMART (i.e., Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Results-focused, Time-focused), and meet the requirements for this course. Each Practicum Learning Objective must describe planned activities, mode of assessment, and PRAC course outcome(s) addressed for the skills you would like to improve from your self-assessment. Select one nursing theory and one counseling/psychotherapy theory to best guide your clinical practice, explaining these 2 chosen theories with supporting evidenced-based literature.

Theoretical Model Framework

2- I also attached the Theoretical Framework for the project that we are going to use

safer opioid use

Have you empowered a patient to believe they could make needed lifestyle modifications irrespective of the barriers that exist in their environment? Please provide examples. If so, you were engaged in health promotion activities as part of your nursing role.

Were there any strategies used in this simulation exercise that you use to improve patient health literacy? Are there any that you use that were not mentioned here? In your experience, how effective are these strategies?

What are some of the biggest challenges you encounter when trying to improve health literacy? What solutions can you offer to manage these challenges?

As a new nurse manager, identify strategies that will foster positive working relationships among your multicultural, multigenerational staff.

Response to discussion 8

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BELOW IN RESPOND IN 50 WORDS OR MORE:

In my Week 1 discussion post, I talked about my concerns with nursing wages and burnout becoming more prominent. Throughout the semester, I have been able to deepen my understanding of these topics. I completed my article review on nursing burnout and through my research, I found that burnout has been gradually getting worse throughout the years. The number seems to be rising more than before and the lack of bedside nurses is climbing as well. This also causes a high nurse turnover and more dissatisfaction over time. Many hospitals are now turning to residency programs to have less nurse turnover as new graduates are required to sign a residency contract if they would like to work in that setting. This allows for less turnover and longer training times at the cost of flexibility and appropriate wages. At least in my case, I was getting paid more at my previous job (SNF) than I was starting at the hospital through the residency even though my previous job offered me less than the median salary for SNF nurses. I also believe that the cost of living in South Florida has gone up exponentially over the past few years and regardless of what “middle-class” job you have, money will be very tight for young adults trying to start to live independently without government support. Overall, I hope to see a change over the next few years for those who love the nursing practice as we are responsible for a significant amount of care provided in the healthcare setting and should be respected as so.

Week 7 Discussion Forum

  • Although we know you did not complete a full research project, you  completed the research proposal with an idea of what your actual results  could be. If you ever do complete a full research project, an important  step is making sure your research is published/disseminated so that  other nurse educator professionals can benefit from your hard work.  There are many ways to disseminate information in nursing as seen in  your text, including many different nursing journals. As a nurse  educator, you will engage in professional development and find  peer-reviewed information to share with your students. Think about your  proposal and where it might fit if it were published. Describe how you  would disseminate your work and the reasons for your choice.

Nursing 8-3

Make a quality initiative proposal (7-10 PowerPoint slides) through a presentation, interpreting and communicating dashboard data to support the proposal.

Week 2 Lab Report

BIOS242, Week 2-OL

Name:

Lab 2: Bacterial Isolation

Learning Objectives

· Explain the importance of bacterial growth for the investigation of pathological microorganisms

· Use aseptic techniques

· Explain the concept of a single colony

· Perform plate-streaking techniques

· Use selective media for isolation purposes

Techniques in Lab

· Colony screening

· Sterile technique

· Plate streaking

Introduction: Bacterial Isolation Virtual Simulation Lab
In the Bacterial Isolation simulation, you will investigate the cause of a contamination of poultry meat by a dangerous bacteria strain that is resistant to common antibiotics. After taking samples from the chicken farm, you will work in the virtual laboratory to isolate single colonies of the deadly bacteria among a variety of different species. To do so, you will learn how to work under sterile conditions, and you will be able to practice and perfect your plate streaking technique.

Identifying ampicillin resistant bacteria
The premise of the Bacterial Isolation lab is a report of ampicillin resistant bacteria in poultry meat. You will visit the place of origination, a chicken farm, in hopes of identifying the bacteria strain. The first task is to take a sample, which will contain a variety of bacterial strains, and from that, you must identify which strains are resistant to ampicillin by isolating single colonies.

Aseptic technique
In the Bacterial Isolation lab, you will learn how to use aseptic techniques—for example, remembering to turn on the Bunsen burner and sterile their loop in between streaks.

Plate streaking technique
In order to identify the specific bacteria strain, you will have to perform bacterial isolation using the plate streaking technique. There is an unlimited supply of agar plates, giving you the opportunity to practice this technique as many times as you like. Results are given immediately, as opposed to waiting a full 24 hours for incubation, as when performed in real life as opposed to in a virtual simulation. You will also streak a special Salmonella Shigella agar. The Salmonella Shigella agar contains a certain medium that only promotes growth of Gram-negative strains. Each of the different strains will exhibit a certain phenotype when grown on the Salmonella Shigella agar. By using this information you can identify the specific strain that is resistant to ampicillin. The sample will then be sent for further analysis to fully confirm the identity.

Will you be able to complete the task with your knowledge on bacterial isolation and successfully isolate the dangerous bacterial strain?

Questions:

1. Purpose: Please describe in complete sentences and in your own words, the purpose of this experiment.

2. Why is proper aseptic technique important in microbiology?

3. What is the importance of flaming the inoculating loop or needle before
and after each inoculation?

4. If you do not wait 10 – 20 seconds after flame sterilizing the inoculating instruments before obtaining the sample, what might be the consequences?

5. Why is it important to flame neck of the tubes immediately after uncapping and before recapping the tubes?

6. Reflection: Write 5 sentences on what you learned from this simulation, what did you like and what was something that you would not prefer to be in the simulation.
