Reading Between the Lines: Emotions

Edit your plan based on any instructor or collegial feedback from Week 4. Proof and finalize the plan. It should include the following information:

  • Company synopsis: This is a snapshot of the company, what it sells, and the number of employees.
  • Management’s philosophy on employee communication: An example of a management philosophy could be that any important communication about the company’s activities are shared internally before being shared externally on the Internet or in a news release.
  • Goals of the communication plan: One possible goal could be to help employees be more productive by establishing a clear and effective employee communication plan. The plan can be viewed as an organizational diagnostic that provides employees with consistent, accurate, and regular information about the company’s business goals and objectives.
  • Target audience characteristics: The plan should take into account cultural, gender, and linguistic differences to help employees understand the goals of the organization.
  • Communication tools: These can include various deliverables, including e-mails, newsletters, e-blasts, brochures, reports, conferences, employee meetings, and more.
  • Communication channels: Communication channels include internal and external Web sites, public relations venues, visits or speeches from management, and more.

This week, add the following sections to your final plan:

  • Review the evaluation methods for your plan. How will you communicate results to management on a regular basis? Consider a monthly report, management briefings, updates, and a yearly summary for board presentations.
  • Describe how you plan to deal with the negative emotions (from employees or other audience groups) that often accompany bad news or other information.

Finally, prepare the opening of the oral presentation that will describe your completed plan to management.

Presentation Notes

In your presentation notes, add 1 strategy for each of the following:

  • Reading the emotions of management: What to look for and how to respond
  • Dealing with any negative responses or emotions to the plan: Ways to resolve any possible conflict in the meeting
  • Finding approval for the plan: Continuing the meeting by moving past any negative emotions (resulting in a win-win for everyone involved)

Add your presentation notes to the end of the plan.

Provide 5–6 sources other than your textbook to support your answer. Use APA style for citations.

Nursing Assignment

WEEK 5

This paper will have three parts addressing two important pieces of legislation related to the right of individuals to make health care decisions for themselves.

Part I

The Advance Health Care Directive

Locate a copy of an advanced directive (AD) that complies with the laws of the state in which you work. The organization in which you work should have a copy of an advance directive that is given to patients. If not, download your state's Advance Directives here

http://www.caringinfo.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=3289.Links to an external site.

Complete the advance directive for yourself.
Do not turn in your AD with your paper. The AD is for your personal use.

In your paper, Part I:

1. Identify where you obtained the AD and explain its compliance with state law.

2. Conduct research (1-2 sources) to learn more about the AD in your state and explain how it works.

3. Discuss how easy or difficult it was to complete the AD. Your comments should be specific and both objective and
subjective. For example, when you state your personal feelings, you must relate them to the literature (textbook and research) that discusses this process and the difficulties that many people face when completing an advance directive.

(Cite/ reference any sources you use to explore these questions, including your texts.)

Part II

Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) Form

1. What is a

Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment (POLST) formLinks to an external site.
?

POLST: Portable medical orders for seriously ill or frail individuals

2. When should this form be completed?

3. Who can complete the form?

4. Who needs to sign the form to make it a legal document?

(Cite/reference any sources you use to explore these questions, including your texts.)

Part III

Tie the two first sections together by writing a summary and conclusion.

This section should address:

1. the differences between an Advance Health Care Directive and the POLST,

2. the RN's important role in assuring the patient's right to autonomy in choosing the healthcare interventions the patient does or does not want.

250 Nurse Evidence Based Discussion

Due 9/25   12pm EST

250 WORDS not including title and reference APA

As you complete the gathering and evaluation of the evidence, it’s important to review the significance and next steps related to EBP.

Consider the following questions in your discussion post:

  • How does a nurse know what (if any) knowledge in a research study is usable for clinical practice?
  • What would a critical thinker look for in the evidence before deciding to change?
  • What influence do credibility and clinical significance have on your decisions to integrate research-based evidence into your practice?

Responses need to address all components of the question, demonstrate critical thinking and analysis, and include peer reviewed journal evidence to support the student’s position.

Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

All posts should be supported by a minimum of one scholarly resource, ideally within the last 5 years. Journals and websites must be cited appropriately. Citations and references must adhere to APA format.

discussion reply 3

provide further suggestions on how their database search might be improved. use 2 sources

The PICO(T) question is, “Among hospitalized patients, does using two identifiers compared to one reduce medical errors?” My clinical issue of interest is the reduction of medical errors. Medical errors are gaps in care that bear potential or actual capacity to harm the patient, such as inaccurate diagnosis and incomplete diagnosis (Aljabari & Kadhim, 2021). These have the ripple effect of inappropriate investigations and treatment, then adverse care outcomes (Aljabari & Kadhim, 2021). Some solutions to medical errors include proper identification of patients, thorough history taking, and comprehensive physical examination. One evidence-based method for patient identification is using two identifiers rather than one (Mroz et al., 2019). Therefore, I am prompted to investigate whether using two identifiers compared to one among hospitalized patients reduces medical errors.

Search results discussion

Regarding my search results, 19,600 articles appeared on the initial original search. As I added search terms such as two identifiers, one identifier, medical errors, and hospitalized patients using Boolean operators such as AND, NOT, and AND NOT, the number of articles appearing kept reducing. At first, they declined to 18,500, then to 17,200, and so on, in a declining trend.

Strategies to optimize database search on my PICO(T) question

There are several strategies I can apply to optimize how effective a database search is while searching my PICO(T) question. These include having a specific search question, using Boolean operators, using more specific keywords, and using fewer synonyms (Degbelo & Teka, 2019). An example of a particular question is a PICO(T) question, which narrows down to a particular population, intervention, control, outcome, and timing. A more specific example is my PICO(T) question that reads, “Among hospitalized patients, does the use of two identifiers compared to one identifier reduce medical errors?” Besides, examples of Boolean operators are OR, AND, NOT, and AND NOT (Degbelo & Teka, 2019). Specific keywords, like particular search questions, direct the search further, optimizing it to give the best results. An example of keywords in my case includes “hospitalized patients,” “two identifiers,” “one identifier,” and “reduce medical errors.” Lastly, using fewer synonyms helps fetch more search results, broadening your search outcome and choosing relevant resources (Degbelo & Teka, 2019). Applying such strategies helps to make the search process more effective and thorough.

Response 1

PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING IN 50 WORDS OR MORE:

My thoughts and concepts of trends in nursing have changed in different areas of nursing. I have learned that organizations such as the ANA are active in making changes for nurses and that nurses can also advocate and join the ANA.  I have also learned about new trends in nursing such as the demand for nurses to get their DNP, and how the mental health of health care workers will be a priority. With the many issues we face in nursing, I have learned that we can also speak to local legislative offices by sending letters, face-to-face appointments, and phone calls. The safe-patient ratio is still an issue that nurses are facing but I have learned that there are ways to battle that such as speaking to team leaders and also learning about the rules and regulations about staffing.  I think a  nurse-driven staffing committee that develops staffing plans that take the needs of the patient population into account and complement the knowledge and expertise of the staff should be required in hospitals. The American Nurses Association is in favor of laws and regulations at the state and federal levels that permit flexible nurse staffing plans and provide nurses the authority to design staffing plans that are unique to each unit. Direct care nurses are well-suited to contribute to the creation of staffing plans since optimal staffing is much more than just a matter of numbers.
