Brief Leadership Speech—Skills and Behavioral Approach

Part 1: The purpose of this assignment is for you to think critically about both the skills approach and the behavioral approach of leadership by preparing your initial (brief) speech for the first meeting on the first day after a disastrous event. Your audience for this speech includes those who will report to you (subordinates). 

 Write the speech in a Word document

The content of the speech needs to succinctly answer the following question: 

What would you say to your team on the first day to communicate your expectations toward structure, productivity, and the concern for people?

Structure, productivity, and the concern for people are key aspects of the behavioral approach of leadership. To keep it simple, the length of the speech must be at least 250 words and no more than 300 words. When spoken, this is approximately two minutes and no more than three minutes. A lot can be stated in that amount of time, so keep it concise and on point

Discuss the Strategic Role of Diversity and Inclusion

This week, you have learned about the strategic value of diversity and inclusion. You also have learned about the differences both diversity and inclusion play in allowing an organization to embrace its significance.

As the VP of HR, you will prepare a written report for the executive leadership team of an organization of your choice. In your paper, you will complete the following:

  • Discuss the significance of the term diversity.
  • Discuss the significance of the term inclusion.
  • You will discuss the strategic value that diversity and inclusion (D&I) will bring to the organization.
  • You will also give 3 to 4 examples of how D&I improves innovation, creativity, and better problem-solving capabilities.

Support your assignment with at least three scholarly or professional resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources, including seminal articles, may be included.

Length: 5-7 pages, not including title and reference pages

References:  Include a minimum of 3 scholarly resources.

Your assignment should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Your response should reflect scholarly writing and current APA standards. 

Performance Management Basics at CM Tech

It’s been a great first week shadowing Emma at CM Tech.  You have learned about actions management can take that lead to poor performance. You’ve read about significant developments in the history of management and how well they did or did not work at CM Tech, and even contemplated what the next big thing might be.  Emma wants to be sure you fully understand all that you have learned and have a solid baseline of information for use in the new concepts you will be learning going forward.  Thus, she has asked you to assemble a report that analyzes what you have learned so far.  

Your report should include the following: 

  1. What actions can management take to ensure poor performance?  Support your assertions with examples and research.
  2. What is performance management and what has prompted such a keen interest in it? 
  3. What are some of the most significant management breakthroughs in history?  Share your experiences with at least three of them.  If you haven’t experienced any element of the breakthrough items then share how they might have applied at CM Tech had you worked there.
  4. Explain how you and Emma can apply all of this information at CM Tech.  How can all of your past experiences, knowledge of performance management, and of significant management breakthroughs to guide CM Tech strategy and future success?  Support your assertions with examples and research.

Your report should outline the key concepts in each area listed above and provide examples as appropriate.  Be sure your report is a minimum of 4 to 5 pages, includes an introduction and conclusion paragraph, title page, and references page.  The title and references pages do not count toward the total page count.  

The report should be formatted in APA style and be supported by a minimum of three scholarly references. Since CM Tech is a fictitious company, you may use great liberty in this assignment in creating or imagining the details needed in order to write your report.

Discussion One:  

  1. Discuss the various components of new employee onboarding, including new hire orientation. Which part do you believe to be most important and why? What is the human resource manager’s role in the employee onboarding process? What is the manager’s role?
  2. How does an onboarding program benefit both new employees and the organization? In your discussion, address how effective employee onboarding can enhance employee engagement and retention.

Be sure to provide the references for the sources of the information you used including the material provided in the classroom.

Discussion Two:  Application

  1. Discuss the consequences of an ineffective, or inadequate, onboarding program from both employee and organizational perspectives.  How can HR evaluate the success of an onboarding program? Discuss at least 3 important onboarding success metrics.
  2. Evaluate the onboarding program of an organization where you are or have been employed or one you are familiar with. Do you believe it is effective in successfully integrating new employees into the organization?  Why or why not?

Be sure to provide the references for the sources of the information you used including the material provided in the classroom.

Discussion: The Importance of Understanding the Law for Health Administrators

 

  • Why is it important for a health care administrator to be able to read and understand the various types of laws?

This should not be opinion, but an analysis, supported by the readings and your own research.
